You have cleansed, exfoliated and moisturized, but your skin is STILL as dry as the desert! You know what that means? It may be time for a chemical peel! At Mystique Medical Spa, we can treat several skin concerns with our VI Peel.
Why should I get a chemical peel?
- Receiving frequent chemical peels will help to remove dead cells and illuminate your skin while simultaneously reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, clogged pores, and blemishes. These peels are made with a powerful blend of ingredients to provide a deeper penetration to soften fine lines and wrinkles, enhance cellular turnover, and stimulate collagen production.
How often should I schedule my chemical peels?
- We recommend our patients schedule their VI Peels every 4-6 weeks. This gives your skin time to complete cell turnover. At the 4 weeks mark your skin is now ready to have your next chemical peel!
How can I customize my chemical peel?
- Your provider will do a custom skin consultation with you to discuss your concerns/goals for your skin. There are several different VI Peel options to treat different skin concerns. Your provider will establish which peel would be best to get you to your treatment goals.
Do I need to prep my skin for a chemical peel?
- Prepping your skin for your appointment is VERY important! We want your skin in its best possible state before we start your treatments. If you already have an established skincare routine with us, there are some things that must be discontinued prior to your chemical peel. These products include: Retinol, Retin-A, Differin, Tazorac, AHA/BHA or benzoyl peroxides. Also avoid using any abrasive cleansers or exfoliants that may be drying or irritating. It is best to avoid these products for at least 5 days before your treatment. If you are receiving any other treatments with us, such as: Laser hair removal, Skin Resurfacing, Botox, Fillers, or Microneedling, your chemical peel should be at least 2 weeks before or after these appointments.
What should I expect after my peel?
- It is important to remember that not everybody physically peels after a chemical peel! Even if you are not seeing your skin flake, don’t panic! This could just mean that you have quite a bit of buildup on your skin and the peel is working on breaking through it. If you are someone who peels, the flaking process usually starts 48-36 hours post treatment. It is best to stay away from makeup (if possible) because your skin is working overtime to slough that top layer off, so you don’t want to prolong your process by putting makeup on top of it. You can expect your flaking to subside between 3-5 days once it has begun. Do not use any hard or abrasive exfoliants for 5 days after your peel.
How should I take care of my skin after my treatment?
- It is best to be using a gentle cleanser such as our ZO Skin health Gentle Cleanser, because it is hydrating and PH balancing. You should ALWAYS be wearing a sunscreen that is 30 SPF or higher. Your skin will be in a very vulnerable state after a peel and it will need to be overly protected from any sun exposure. You also may experience some dryness during this time, so it is best to use something to hydrate your skin. We recommend using our ZO Skin Health Hydrating Creme for the days following your treatment to combat any discomfort. Lastly, we recommend using a masque around the 4-5 day of your peel such as the ZO Skin Health Enzymatic Peel to help remove any of the remaining flaky skin and give your peeling process an extra boost! Pro Tip: Apply your Enzymatic Peel to your full face and sleep with it on for a cooling and hydrating effect! You will wake up with your skin feeling AMAZING!
