How Does BOTOX® Work?

Many of the wrinkles that develop as we age are the result of repetitive facial movements. BOTOX® is an injectable wrinkle reducer that contains Botulinum Toxin, a purified protein that temporarily relaxes muscles.2 By blocking the nerve signals that cause muscle contractions, BOTOX® smooths away existing fine lines and temporarily prevents new wrinkles from forming. The result is a refreshed, more youthful appearance.

In addition to treating wrinkles, BOTOX® can also be expertly administered to treat other aesthetic concerns such as a gummy smile or thin upper lip. Additionally, BOTOX® has many medical uses and is often used to treat conditions such as migraines and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Frequently Asked Questions About BOTOX®

How long does BOTOX® last?

This can differ for each patient, but on average BOTOX® results last about three months.

Am I too young to get BOTOX®?

The minimum age to get BOTOX® is 18 years old, although few people start that young. We do have many patients get their first BOTOX® treatments in their mid-20’s. Sometimes called preventative BOTOX® or “baby BOTOX®”, getting BOTOX® before you have significant signs of aging can help prevent wrinkles from forming in the first place.

Am I too old to get BOTOX®?

Probably not! Anyone who is bothered by wrinkles or fine lines can benefit from BOTOX®. We have patients who got their first BOTOX® treatment in their 50’s or 60’s. There is no upper age limit for BOTOX®.

Do men get BOTOX®?

Yes, although they may not talk about it as much, men are definitely getting BOTOX®! Men care about their appearance too. Our expert injectors understand that male patients may want a more subtle change. We can administer BOTOX® in a way that makes you look younger and more vital, while still maintaining a naturally masculine appearance.

Is BOTOX® safe?

Yes, BOTOX® is FDA-approved and has a well-documented safety profile. That said, you want to make sure you are getting BOTOX® from trained professionals at a reputable location. The highly experienced team at Mystique Medical Spa offers high-quality treatment in our clean, comfortable, and award-winning med spa.

Do BOTOX® injections hurt?

Most patients experience only minimal discomfort, often described as a slight pinch. A topical anesthetic can be applied to reduce any discomfort if needed.

Can BOTOX® be combined with other treatments?

Yes, BOTOX® is great as a standalone treatment, but it can also be combined with other injectables or skin rejuvenation procedures as part of a customized anti-aging package.
